The Umoya omuhle study, conducted in 2019, asked respondents to provide detailed information on the people they had prolonged close contact with (physical or conversational) on a recent day, and where they travelled and spent time indoors. The Covid Social Contact study repeated many of these measures from June 2020 onwards, during Covid-related lockdowns. The data collection was created in order to measure how behaviours, and thus risk for respiratory infection, changed over the intervening year.
