    Abstract

    ASTRA is a multi-country research programme investigating how extreme weather events (EWEs) affect communities and health systems, particularly vulnerable populations living with HIV and/or tuberculosis. The study uses interdisciplinary and mixed-methods approaches to understand the impacts of EWEs on health, healthcare access and service delivery, and to identify feasible interventions that can strengthen community and health-system resilience.

    The study is being conducted across Mozambique, South Africa and Zambia and includes community members, people living with HIV and/or tuberculosis, healthcare workers, policymakers, government officials and other relevant stakeholders.

    Study Aim: The aim of ASTRA is to use co-designed interdisciplinary approaches to propose, prioritise and evaluate feasible interventions that strengthen community and health-system resilience to extreme weather events among vulnerable populations living with HIV and/or tuberculosis.

    Specific Objectives:
    To develop a system dynamics model to assess how extreme weather events affect HIV service delivery and continuity of care for people living with HIV.
