    Abstract

AHRILink is an electronic data collection system used to record all patients' visits to the 11 clinics located in the AHRI Population Intervention Programme (PIP) study area. The system was implemented in 2017 to assist clinical research assistants (CRAs) stationed in these clinics to capture reasons for clinic attendance. AHRILink database for each of the clinics is linked to a central AHRILink database through ongoing replication process. On a daily basis the PIP surveillance database is synchronised with the central AHRILink database, allowing CRAs access to an up to date list of individuals to search in AHRILink. Individuals are searched using individual identifiers such as first names, surnames, date of birth, sex and South African civilian identifiers. Deterministic and fuzzy match approaches are used to search for the individuals in the database. Verification is done to ensure that the individual is correctly linked by checking with the individual to name the household members who form part of the household they are part of.

    Kind of Data

The AHRIlink Data is anonymised and mainly contains demographic data such as age, sex, date and time of visit, name of the clinic, reason for clinic attendance and whether or not the individual is linked to PIP database. Each record is a visit reason (VisitId) that each individual has made to the clinic. Individuals can visit the clinic for more than one reason and will then have multiple records in the dataset for the visit identified by the dame VisitId. Patient Id is a sequential number used to denote all visits which belong to one individual

    Unit of Analysis

Each record is a visit reason per visit (VisitId) that each individual has had. Patient id is a sequential number used to denote all visits which belong to one individual.
