    Title

    AHRI.MONARCH (Management and Optimisation of Nutrition, Antenatal, Reproductive, Child health & HIV care)

    Country
    Name Country code
    South Africa ZA
    Abstract

    MONARCH was a stepped-wedge trial of continuous quality improvement (CQI) conducted at the 7 clinics part of the AHRI original demographic surveillance area: Mtubatuba, KwaMsane, Somkhele, Gunjaneni, Machibini, Esiyembeni and Mpukunyoni clinics. Primary endpoint data were collected from the 7 participating clinics + the local district hospital as most deliveries occurred at the hospital, although no CQI activities occurred at the hospital.
    Detailed methods are provided in the published protocol paper (Chetty, Yapa et al. BMC Health Serv Res 2018;18:625. doi: 10.1186/s12913-018-3404-3 https://doi.org/10.1186%2Fs12913-018-3404-3 ) and the primary endpoint manuscript (Yapa et al. PLoS Med 2020; 17:e1003150. doi: 10.1371/journal.pmed.1003150 https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pmed.1003150 ).
    Variables included in this (long/ panel) dataset (per request):
    (1) Primary outcomes: HIV VL variable outvltv; repeat HIV screening variable: outscrtv
    (2) Period indicator: stepv
    (3) Treatment indicator: qib
    (4) Cluster indicator variables: clinic1, clust1
    (5) Randomised by clinic size: clinsize
    (6) Individual subject identifier: studyid, idno

    **primary model without random clinic-time interaction (basic H&H)
    meglm outvltv qib i.stepv if visitno!=11 & seroconv!=1 ||clinic1:, family(poisson) vce(cluster clinic1) eform
    meglm outscrtv qib i.stepv if visitno!=11||clinic1:, family(poisson) vce(cluster clinic1) eform

    Kind of Data

    Routine clinical data extracted from paper medical records

    Unit of Analysis

    Antenatal visit. Defined by date.
    NB: visit 11 is the delivery date. Up to 10 ANC visits were included in the analysis. If confv is missing or 0 that means the participant did not attend an ANC visit at that time (therefore, date and other information for that visit should be missing).
    All ANC visit dates were entered sequentially based on actual attendance, regardless of time elapsed since last visit or when it was scheduled. E.g., if confv for visit 4 was missing, there should not be any data for visit 5 or beyond. There will be a date for visit 11 as that variable was created based on the delivery date.
